Over the past several decades, the number of clinical trials conducted outside of the United States has risen dramatically, as sponsors look to conduct trials in countries where they will likely be able to recruit patients more easily, with potentially less red tape and lower costs. As of August 2015, according to Clinicaltrials.gov, over 100,000 of the clinical trials registered in its database are being conducted outside of the U.S., with 46% of all trials registered taking place entirely outside of the U.S. and another 6% partially conducted overseas.
