[IDC Whitepaper] EHR Optimization: Accelerating the Journey to Satisfaction and Value for the Long Term
Today, a decade after the passage of the HITECH Act, electronic health records (EHR) systems are deployed at over 90 percent of American hospitals. They are embedded at the heart of provider organizations as a core technology for both business operations and clinical workflow. It is widely acknowledged, however, that EHRs do a much better job supporting business processes than patient care. To address this discrepancy, providers must transition from using EHRs as a closed, data-entry application to a more open, outcomes-focused and data-driven platform. “EHR optimization” paves the way for unleashing new value in clinical documentation and other processes by enabling better physician experiences and, in turn, better patient experiences and outcomes.
